Under construction. But aren’t we all?
December 15, 2009
Well, as the late Richard Jeni once stated “Here I am! A big steaming pile of me.” For the past couple of years, I’ve been reading many blogs. Like anything, some are very good, some are very bad, but most are average.
And there it is. That word. “Average”. Dictionary.com defines the word “average” as: ”Noun- a typical amount, rate, degree, etc.; norm”. Many words in the english language annoy me, this particular one annoys me more than the 700 club or fat free ice cream.
When did it become acceptable for average to be an edict for a generation? So many times I hear “Well, that’s just how it works around here.” or “That’s the way he/she is.” It makes me ill that the american human spirit of the 1950′s and 60′s have been replaced with snuggies being sold on the home shopping network.
Each individual in the United States is asked the same question when they are a child. “What do you want to be when you grow up?”. A lawyer, doctor, astronaut, and athlete are usually blurted out. Nobody ever states “I want to be a shipping clerk at the local hardware store.” Somewhere along the line, our drive for excellence makes a pit stop at the Flying J truck travel plaza.
This blog will have a theme. Me. That’s all. I will rant and rave about how narrow minded people upset me, while at the same time, be narrow minded myself. I make no promises in regards to politeness or expressing my concern of the lack grace and class.
I am above average. Some people will think that’s an elitist statement. I guess that makes me an elitist. And if you’re not that’s ok. I’ll take a box 3/8 inch nails from behind the counter please.

As a kid, I witnessed the Detroit riots on television, as well as the landing on the moon, demonstrations for and against the Vietnam War and Nixon’s cover-up of the Watergate Hotel breakin; among other things
2009 is quickly coming to an end I laugh as history repeats itself but is now exaggerated for our viewing pleasure.
My home town of Detroit is the laughing stock of the country. Billions and billions have been spent on Detroit the past 30 years and I ask: WHERE’S THE MONEY and where was the leadership. Dave Bing might be the right person to turn things around; however, there are probably many stories that we don’t know about that cannot be fixed UNTIL WE COME TOGETHER. A common refrain for decades.
Nixon covered up the Watergate breakin, but Clinton, among other things, cut the CIA in half during his administration, was president during the first bombing of the World Trade Center and was president when details of the second bombing were being worked out by Bin Laden. Nixon resigned for covering up the Watergate breakin and Clinton said he was sorry. Where is the accountability for both?
Early in his administrtion, Bush II was villified by the Democrats for instituting the program of proving prescription medications for Medicare eligible individuals. This is a program that could have been stated by both Democrats and Republicans alike, but took more than 35 years to begin since the onset of Medicare. The Democrats stated the prescription medication program could cause irreperable harm to our economy. The Democrats are about about to close the “Donut Hole” (look it up). Debbie Stabenow stated on television that our seniors were not smart enough to figure out what was in their own best interest. Are you kidding me, seniors not being able to look out for their own best interest.
Currently, the republicans are telling us that the newest health care bill about to be passed by the senate is horrible, miserable, will ruin the country, hurt seniors, cause the end of western civilization and the downfall of America.
BULLSHIT!!!
I am probably one of the few that read the House and Senate Bill. Except the 400 or so pages that pertains to “Indian Health Care.” Yes, you read this right, the federal government calls it Indian Health Care.
The first 1,500 pages was typical boring stuff that has been glossed over by the Republicans. They conveniently leave out the part where you can no longer discriminate for pre-existing conditions, limitations on insurance company profits, focus on preventive care, focus on primary care, reducing duplication of services at hospitals, etc. It call out hospitals, specialists, drug companies, manufacturers of knees and hips and helps us to be more responsible for our own health care. (A novel idea)
Medicare is the one thing that that the federal government does better than the private sector.
99% of all dollars spent on Medicare patients goes to health care. The private sector is happy with 90% and 10% going to administration. Why don’t the republicans tell us this fact?
Let’s take the time to research this stuff ourselves. I know this is dull and boring stuff, but the left and right leaning media expect us NOT to read this stuff and be led by rings attached to our noses.

Correction,
Medicare has been with us since about 1965 or about 44 years. My mistake.
